Fairtrade is just one program example of buying and selling products that allows the farmers to be paid a fair price for their products, and have better working conditions. Trade is 'unfair' when farmers receive low income and have poor working conditions while the companies that sell their products make large amounts of money from them.
Supporting farmers to improve the amount of crop they produce and its quality are important for sustainable livelihoods. It means farmers can earn more from what they produce to become more economically stable and more reliable suppliers.
As a coffee roaster in Canada, the choice to use ethically sourced coffee is an easy one. The difference in cost for this choice compared to the difference it makes in the lives of those who produce these amazing coffees is no comparison at all.
